不可加but.
「Despite the fact + that子句」是副詞性質的獨立片語而非一個句子, 逗號後面是它所修飾的主要子句, 若加了but就缺主要子句了.

2. despite + that 不對嗎 ? 一定要 despite the fact that 才行嗎 ?此時的that 是引導名詞子句，還事關代?有點搞混了

despite是介系詞, 嚴謹的文法規定that所引導的名詞子句前面不接受介系詞, 所以要用名詞the fact作為其受詞, 而這個that子句作為the fact的同位語.
that既是引導名詞子句, 它就是從屬連接詞, 而不是關代.
記住這個原則: 當that不擔任子句中的主詞或受詞時, 它一定不是關代.

主句動詞是表示意見或想法的think, believe, suppose等並後接名詞子句時, 附帶問句依照子句動詞來問.
