土耳其總理厄多岡1日宣布參選土耳其首任的直選總統，直選總統比現行的虛位總統享有更大權力，一般預料已擔任11年總理的厄多岡將在8月的總統大選贏得勝利，讓他再繼續掌權5年。

執政黨AK黨以鼓掌方式通過由厄多岡出馬競選總統，他雖身陷貪腐醜聞，但支持度仍高，反對派憂心，近年愈來愈容不下異己的厄多岡當選總統後會更獨裁。
