非科幻小說地底疑真有大海

（法新社巴黎12日電） 150年前的法國科幻小說「地心冒險」（Journey to the Centre of the Earth）曾想像地殼底下有著廣大海洋。加拿大科學家說，這可能是真的。

他們今天在「自然」（Nature）科學期刊發表研究指出，他們在上部地函（upper mantle）和下部地函（lower mantle）之間的過渡帶（transition zone），發現尖晶橄欖石（Ringwoodite，過渡帶主要礦物的主要成分，晶體結構含有大量的水），因此得出這個結論。

他們認為，在地殼底下400-600公尺的地方，應該存在很多水，可能多達地表海洋總和。

科學家說，如果地殼底下真的存在大量的水，將會嚴重影響火山運作機制，與地球板塊的移動，因此地球活動才這麼活躍。（譯者：中央社何世煌）
