剛從小熊交易到運動家的強投Jeff Samardzija，首場先發即表現不凡，繳出7局4安失1分的優質先發，助新東家以4比2擊退藍鳥。

Samardzija投108球（75好球），送出5次三振、1次保送，轉隊運動家首勝入袋，本季防禦率2.74。

才剛從國聯來到美聯，Samardzija就幫助新東家完成四連戰橫掃，足以說明運動家積極促成交易的原因。

「第一印象永遠是最重要的。」Samardzija在賽後說道：「就像我昨天所說，他們並不需要我；沒有我加入，他們還是很強，我來到這並不想改變任何事，只想做好自己的份內工作。」

Samardzija過去在小熊先發17場，防禦率2.83，卻往往得不到隊友火力支援，只拿過2勝，吞了7敗，開季第11場先發才盼到今年首勝，堪稱本季最悲情投手。

來到嶄新的舞台伸展，Samardzija繳出好投，運動家教頭Bob Melvin感到滿意：「很開心看到他有一個好的開始，很棒的表現。」

這一戰運動家全場敲出11安，靠Derek Norris、Nate Freiman、John Jaso和Craig Gentry敲安，攻下4分。

反觀藍鳥，全場僅敲5安，其中川崎宗則包辦2支安打，而在9局上代替他打擊的Steve Tolleson也扛出一發全壘打，貢獻1打點，Melky Cabrera則在第6局擊出滾地球繳出1打點。
