《MarketWatch》報導，美國國務院表示，本週一美國與伊朗將在日內瓦就德黑蘭核子計畫展開雙邊對談。

5 週後 (7月20日) 就是伊朗和世界強國協定結束德黑蘭核子計畫爭議的最後時間。美歐官員近來暗示很可能需要更多時間談判，肇因於伊朗與5聯合國安理會成員國以及德國之間意見分歧。

美國資深官員表示：「我們相信我們必須盡可能採取主動外交策略，看看是否能用外交手段解決伊朗核子計畫問題。這是談判過程中的重要環節，這是我們在下次日內瓦維也納安理會議中與各國交換意見的機會。」

美國國務院表示，美國副國務卿伯恩斯將率領代表團參與談判，其中成員包括歐巴馬政府首席核子談判專家 Wendy Sherman、副總統拜登國安顧問 Jake Sullivan。

日內瓦對談象徵美伊之間雙向溝通管道再次打開，兩年前美伊曾在波斯灣國家阿曼秘密對話。
