提告外遇第三者

因為老公和第三者搞出了一個小孩，
所以老婆決定提告，
可是為什麼？老婆去警察局做筆錄申請提告第三者時，
警方卻說：提告前，要先通知第三者？

這到底是什麼鬼說法！為什麼要提告前還要通知第三者？
正常來說應該是老婆提告，第三者就等著收法院通知不是嗎？
為什麼還要通知第三者呢？
請各位大大，可以解釋給我為什麼要這樣做嗎？

還有，若不提告第三者的話，可以去調解委員會
以調解方式來保障自己爾後的權益嗎？

我真的萬萬想不到，這件事會發生在我身上。
我真的不知道要如何來處理，
所以拜託各位大大，教教我如何處置這問題吧！

還有全程需所花的費用？(( 沒有要請律師 ))

可以判賠哪些項目？(( 我的孩子都已年滿20，可以要求判賠扶養費嗎？ ))
