路透報導，白宮14日說，如果克里米亞如期在16日舉辦公投，美國將迅速回應。白宮當日還表示，很遺憾俄國未選擇停止擴大在烏克蘭克里米亞自治共和國的緊張紛爭。

美國國務卿柯瑞14日稍早在倫敦說，美國及國際社會不會承認克里米亞公投的結果，而如果俄國國會承認其結果，將是不正當的吞併克里米亞。
