美國曼哈頓區這起因瓦斯外洩而起的爆炸案，引發巨大火球，並將曼哈頓2棟公寓夷成平地。據Fox News報導，救援人員週三稍早還在尋找瓦礫堆中的罹難者，目前的死亡人數增加到6人。

據Fox News報導，目前受傷人數還不完全確定，美國紐約市警察局(NYPD)週三晚間至證實有27人受傷，其中2人生命垂危；但美聯社報導則指出，約有60人在這場爆炸中受傷。

紐約市長白思豪(Bill de Blasio)週三晚間稱這起事故為「最慘烈悲劇」，並指出2棟大樓內仍有9名居民下落不明。

這起發生在曼哈頓區東哈林(East Harlem)的爆炸案地點，鄰近116街和公園大道的拉丁美洲裔社區，2棟倒塌的建築內共有15戶。

該起爆炸案讓部分紐約客憶起2001年的911恐怖攻擊事件，其他目擊者則表示，爆炸當下，彷彿發生大地震；有目擊者則形容現場宛若戰區，爆炸現場盡是扭曲鋼筋、濃煙和灰燼瓦礫。
