全壘打大賽是眾家砲手展現力量的好機會，但事前美聯隊長Jose Bautista想找Mike Trout卻被拒絕，Trout透露是尊重總教練的意見，「不斷地全力揮棒，會對身體造成傷害。」

天使外野手Trout在明星賽之前敲出22轟，排名全大聯盟第4名，長打率0.606也高居第3，受到青睞是理所當然的事。

今天(15日)Trout談到為何會拒絕參加全壘打大賽，「Mike Scioscia(總教練)很擔心，不斷地全力揮棒維持一段時間，會對身體造成傷害。我有聽教練的意見，但主要還是我自己做出決定。」

「你永遠都要尊重教練，這個決定對球隊、對我都會是正確的。」Trout補充說，「我很肯定，如果我說我想要參加全壘打大賽，他(Mike Scioscia)還是會支持我的。」

最後Trout表示，「所有的一切都是為了球迷，我並不是全壘打型的打者，在比賽中並沒有想著要開轟，我就是想辦法打出安打，然後就自然發生了。」
