休士頓火箭17日進行例行賽最終戰，來到紐奧良鵜鶘主場踢館，賽前就傳出3大主力哈登(James Harden)、林書豪、帕森斯(Chandler Parsons)將高掛免戰牌，此舉也讓火箭一路陷入苦戰，儘管頂上先發的小將丹尼爾斯(Troy Daniels)飆出生涯新高22分，火箭「封關戰」最終仍以100比105不敵鵜鶘。

在確定西區第4席位後，火箭面對鵜鶘的例行賽最終戰，賽前就早早傳出將讓幾名主力休兵調整，以備戰後續的季後賽挑戰。此戰火箭就遭鵜鶘以一波11比4猛攻壓制，所幸瓊斯(Terrence Jones)前3節頂住戰局，貢獻17分、8籃板、4助攻，但他第4節完全未打，也顯現火箭練兵調整決心。

此戰火箭表現最佳者，首推生涯首度擔綱先發重任的菜鳥丹尼爾斯，在林書豪、哈登皆不克上場的情況下，他全場狂轟生涯新高22分外帶5助攻，三分線更有11投6中佳作。至於魔獸霍華德(Dwight Howard)此戰則僅打25分鐘出頭，貢獻7分、4籃板、4助攻。

只可惜最終勝利仍屬於主場鵜鶘，前一戰飆出41分、9籃板、8助攻的伊文斯(Tyreke Evans)，此戰依舊火力四射，全場狂攻25分、6籃板、10助攻，更在終場前51.2秒，用一記招牌左側切入換手上籃，助鵜鶘奠定5分贏球局勢。

鵜鶘此戰團隊命中率高達52.4%，終場就以5分之差擊退火箭，也讓火箭本季確定以54勝28敗的戰績作收，接下來就將面對強悍的季後賽考驗。
